"Dreams don’t work unless you do" – M

We think that Humans are very different from other animal species for many reasons, even if we share a common DNA with other ones. However, the things that we think separate us from animals are our rationality, goals, and motivations that go beyond our primary instincts. We can say that all human beings have goals. Ones that are smaller than others and ones that are very ambitious, but we think that whatever our goals may be, they are the ones that keep us motivated and are the impulse that makes us wake up every morning. However, when we do not set our goals correctly and with a structured plan, we may not do anything to achieve them, and we may feel depressed or sad when this happens.

We want to help our customers and our community to reach their goals! We have been investigating what methods are the most effective in achieving goals, even if they are personal ( Mind, Body and Work) or for your own Business or the Company you work for. We want to tell you about the methodology we find it’s the most effective in this article. So, are you ready to learn how to set your achievable goals?

How to set smart goals that are attainable, realistic and achievable.

Learn How to set Goals and achieve them with this method

The Method is called SMART: The term was first proposed by George T. Doran in November 1981. It is a method that has been used widely and it can be applied to our personal goals or businesses. It helps to clarify ideas, focus your productivity and use time and resources wisely. With this, you can increase your chances of getting where you want, but this of course only depends on you!

Smart is the Acronym for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time. Let's break into each one of them. Are you ready?

SPECIFIC GOALS

Goals must be specific, you need to know exactly what you want to accomplish, but how do you know how to make specific goals? Well, first you can not start setting general goals like becoming a Vegetarian or become fit. These goals are too general and too broad. You need to narrow them down. One way to start setting specific goals is to start answering all the W questions:

  • What do I want to accomplish?

  • Why is this goal important?

  • Who is involved?

  • Where is it located? (if it has a specific location)

  • When (we will talk more about it in the Time Bound Section)

  • Which resources or limits are involved?

When you have answered the previous questions you will be able to continue to the next step.

MEASURABLE

If you do not have goals that you can measure you will be lost because there is nothing you can compare to or measure your progress. Measuring your goals is a way to keep you motivated when you see that you are improving and one step closer to your goals. Now you may be wondering how I start measuring them. You can start by asking yourself what data will measure the goal. Measurement can be both quantitative (Money saved. Money earned, Reach, rates, ) and Qualitative (Testimonials, Surveys, tests, reports)

  • How Much?

  • How Many?

  • How Long?

  • How do I know when my goal is accomplished?

An example of a measurable goal in your company can be to get to 10,000 impressions in a new campaign with a conversion rate of 5% or Get 5,000 dollars in revenue with a conversion rate of 4%

A Personal Example can be, by my next Corporate presentation, I should be able to create a presentation with graphics, images, videos, links, or whatever is needed to present the idea effectively so that everybody can understand in a couple of hours.

Here you have the data you need to measure to know if the goal is accomplished or not.

ACHIEVABLE GOALS

We know that we tend to think of very ambitious goals and why not? We all want to be successful, right? But when you set very ambitious goals, sometimes they are not realistic because we lack some skills or time to accomplish them. That is when we lack the motivation to do them, we never get to accomplish them, and we feel frustrated. We think this is the biggest mistake when we set goals because we aim for the big ones, but sometimes they seem too big or too far to accomplish. Do not get us wrong, we believe in ambitious goals, but we need the right way to accomplish them. If you have a very ambitious goal that you know you can not accomplish in the short term (for example 6 months), then break the bigger goal into smaller ones that will help you accomplish the bigger one!

For example, if your goal is to get a promotion by 1st June of the following year in your marketing job, then you will need to break this bigger goal into smaller ones, that you think are going to help you achieve that bigger one. For example, set 3 smaller goals that will steps:

  1. Read a Book 📚 about branding 20 min before you go to sleep every weekday for 2 Months that will teach you something about Branding strategies, and then think about how those branding tips will help your company.

  2. Watch a video about the marketing of 30 min tactics and strategies every Monday and Wednesday for two months, and then think about how those strategies can be implemented in your company.

  3. Write 100 words in an article about those strategies you have learned every Thursday for two months and send it to your boss, by the end of the two months.

RELEVANT GOALS

You need to set goals that you think are important and matter to you or the company you are in and are also aligned with your or the company’s purpose. For example, If you are going to launch a new service or product in your company, you need to think if this launch aligns with its purpose or objective. To know if the goal is Relevant, you can answer the following questions

  1. Is it the right time to do this?

  2. Is this something I want to do in my Life?

  3. Is it ok in this socio-political environment am in?

  4. Is this something important for the company/life

TIME-BOUND GOALS

When you have set the goals is important to have a time bound not only because you know that frame of time in which you can be focused on the tasks you need to accomplish the goals, but also because when you set time-bound it creates a sense of urgency to finish and accomplish the goal. If you are working on a team, it also helps that people concentrate on the priority tasks and not on the everyday tasks.

For example, if your goal is to get promoted, The time-bound will be that by the end of next year, you should be promoted.
